A prospective analysis of occult pneumothorax, delayed pneumothorax and delayed hemothorax after minor blunt thoracic trauma.
OBJECTIVES A prospective analysis was conducted to define the incidence of occult pneumothorax (OPX), delayed pneumothorax (DPX) and delayed hemothorax (DHX) and to propose an algorithm for surveillance. METHODS During the last 2 years 709 consecutive patients who did not fulfill the indications for intrahospital management were examined at our emergency department for blunt thoracic injury. ...
متن کاملImpact of simulation-based training in surgical chest tube insertion on a model of traumatic pneumothorax
Background Chest tube insertion is required for most cases of traumatic pneumothorax. However, this procedure entails risks of potentially life-threatening complications. A "surgical" approach is widely recommended to minimize these risks. Simulation-based education has previously been used in surgical chest tube insertion, but not been subjected to rigorous evaluation. Methods The primary ob...
متن کاملEffect of Cold in Combination with Indomethacin Suppository Administration on Analgesic Need after Chest Tube Removal
Background and Objectives: Chest tube removal is a prompt painful procedure. The pain is gradually relieved after removal of the tube. Cold application in combination with the Indomethacin suppository administration may increase the duration for analgesic need. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of cold in combination with Indomethacin suppository on the duration for analgesic need after c...
متن کاملRole of small calibre chest tube drainage for iatrogenic pneumothorax.
A 2 mm Teflon catheter was used as a chest tube in 28 patients with iatrogenic pneumothorax. Frequent aspirations through the catheter were performed in 16 of the patients. In the remaining 12 patients the catheter was connected to a one way flutter valve. The treatment was successful in 27 of the 28 patients--one patient required a large calibre chest tube. The mean drainage time was 48 hours....
متن کاملMassive hemothorax immediately after removal of central venous catheter -A case report-
Hemothorax is a possible immediate complication of central venous catheterization. We experienced a patient who suffered from massive hemothorax 72 hours after right subclavian venous catheterization. A 29-year-old female patient with Marfan's syndrome underwent the Bentall's operation and aortic arch replacement with an artificial graft, which was performed uneventfully. She recovered favorabl...
